Color Theory

Color Theory

  1. Hue: One of the main properties of a color, common hues make up the primary colors
  2. Value: is the lightness and the darkness of a color
  3. Saturation: The state or process in which no more of something can be absorbed.
  4. Millions of colors are available on our computers.
  5. Secondary color: is made by mixing two or more primary colors
  6. Tertiary color: are formed when an even amount of primary and secondary colors are mixed 
  7. Complementary color: colors that cancel each other out when combined
    1. The primary colors in photoshop are red, green, and blue.
    2. The secondary colors in photoshop are anything the primary colors make when combined.
  8. Additive Color Model: a model in which red, green, and blue light are shone different ways to produce different colors.
  9. RGB is Additive
  10. CMYK is used for color printing and is used to describe printing itself.
  11. Analogous colors: Three colors that are next to each other on the color wheel with one of them being the dominant color.
  12. Tint: A mixture of any color with white to lighten the color
  13. Shade: A mixture of any color with black to darken the color.
  14. Neutral: Colors that do not show up on the color wheel such as white, black, and sometimes brown.
  15. Monochromatic: Visible light of a narrow band of wavelengths
    1. Warm colors usually represent happiness and are bright, standing out more than other colors.
  16. Cool colors are usually darker and represent sadness. They stand out in a different way than warm colors do.
  17. Blue is associated with stability.
  18. Purple symbolizes royalty.
  19. White is the color of cleanliness.
  20. Green symbolizes freshness.
  21. The color orange is associated with joy.
  22. Red symbolizes danger and passion.
